Build your career with CarbonSmart knowledge
This is a part-funded green skills bootcamp for built environment professionals, working in companies of any size, delivered by London South Bank University (LSBU).
We are looking for employees who want to progress their career and employers seeking to upskill their staff in this vital area. The course is aimed at those working in construction, procurement, sustainability, and design-related fields e.g. quantity surveyors, project managers, energy specialists and facilities managers.
The next bootcamp to train built environment professionals to calculate the carbon footprint of an array of projects starts on Friday 16 May 2025.

What will I learn?
The ability to calculate carbon emissions is an essential tool for businesses, helping them recognise, control, and reduce risks and promote sustainability. It is an important factor in adhering to environmental laws and responsibilities, optimising resource management, and enhancing business performance.
At the end of the programme, you will be able to:
- Apply sustainability principles within your daily business operations
- Conduct a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) using professional LCA tools
- Understand the RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA) principles and the data behind them
- Perform a Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions assessment
- Optimise your supply chain using sustainability principles
Our pledge to support SMEs
With the resource constraints faced by SMEs, which constitute 99.9% of UK private sector businesses, initiatives like the CarbonSmart Bootcamp can be pivotal in empowering SME staff to drive meaningful sustainability actions.
- 70% of the UK's largest companies have already set carbon reduction targets
- SMEs can play a crucial role in addressing the UK's (industrial sector) 17% contribution to greenhouse gas emissions
- The course offers hands-on training that sets employees and employers up to tackle real life challenges

Here's what one of our CarbonSmart graduates told us:
"Participating in LSBU's CarbonSmart Bootcamp has empowered us with the knowledge to navigate the RICS Whole Life Carbon Assessment and strengthened our commitment to sustainable practices."James Sheppard, Equals Consulting
